Lately, I've been reading the biography of Audrey Hepburn by Barry Paris. Though long, it is slightly ridiculously fascinating.
I love Audrey, and I know that it's cliche. But Audrey Hepburn redefined so much. In a world of Marilyn Monroes, her gamine, androgynous style helped pave a different road for women. She had a radically different figure from the other leading stars of her time, and instead of falling behind them, she reached miles ahead (especially after her partnership with Givenchy, but that's another topic entirely!). She was sought after not only by the fashion industry, but the movie industry too. Her style was her own, and she inspired others to follow. Not only that, but she broke through barriers with a graceful and grateful disposition. I'm not saying she never made a mistake, but when she did, it was handled with class. Always grateful for the roles she was given, and the praise she received for those roles, Audrey rarely left a bad impression on anyone. Her male co-stars all fell in love with her, with her captivating charm and bewildering beauty. You couldn't help but smile at her playful attitude. Surely, without Audrey, we would not have some of stars we do today. Her films and acting would inspire so many to perfect their own talent. Moreover, her style has become a classic look. Anyone wearing black cigarette pants and white button up would not be considered out of style in any decade following Audrey's reign. She has left an inspiration for generations to come, including in her work with UNICEF. Clearly, she has inspired me, not only to dress my best but, as only Audrey can explain

"For Attractive lips, speak words of kindness, For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people, For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry, For Beautiful hair, let a child run their fingers through it once a day, For poise, walk with the knowledge that you never walk alone. People, more than things, have to be restored, renewed, revived, reclaimed, and redeemed. Remember, if you ever need a helping hand, you will find one at the end of each of your arms. As you grow older, you will discover that you have two hands, one for helping yourself and the other for helping others."

Yes, I know that was a slight rant! But reading her biography is possibly making all my thoughts consumed by Audrey.

More posts to come later :)
